According to Alexa (a web information company), and others, search engines are the most visited sites on the web. Even if people know your web address, they still might search for you and then click (in a lot of cases, it’s actually faster than typing in your domain name.) That means is more important than ever to make sure your site is organized, optimized, and easily indexed by the major search engines.
Unfortunately, not all SEO practices are equal, and in some cases, certain techniques can do more harm than good. These are called black-hat SEO techniques that use unethical practices in attempt to increase your search rankings. Some companies will guarantee or promise that they’ll get you in the top X results – well, they’re wrong. Nobody can guarantee that. Not even Matt Cutts, the head of the Google webspam team, can get you into the top results. However, he knows all the proper techniques that will naturally make that happen, and we practically stalk him.
Does your website currently have random (but relevant) words and phrases stuffed into the bottom of the page? Maybe somebody tried to adjust the font color so that it blends in with the background like some sort of camouflage? That’s a black-hat technique, and if the search provider finds out, they could decrease your rankings or remove your website from their search results altogether!
